Brodie Cupples

Brodie is the backbone of the group playing the drop thumb style rhythm of Lester Flatt on his Martin HD-28.    Brodie also sings harmonies.  You don't find many drop thumb style pickers in bluegrass circles anymore, but look no further, because this is the steadiest rhythm player you'll find.  Brodie lives in Dyersburg, TN with his wife of 41 years Loretta.  He has two grown sons, (one of which is the bass player for Cane Ridge) and has 5 grandchildren.  Brodie played a Takamine knock off of a Martin for many, many years and was too tight, (umm, frugal) to buy a Martin.  That all changed in 2007 and he hasn't looked back since finding the perfect Martin HD-28.  He says that the herringbone binding on the Martin cost as much as his Takamine did in the 80's.  Brodie is retired from UPS and is involved in Boy Scouting.

                                                                                     Mark Johnston

Mark is Cane Ridge's front man who handles most of the lead singing and MC work. During a typical performance, mark will be called upon to play his Gibson Masterone "Earl Scruggs Standard" banjo (He loves the classic sound of the old Gibson 5 string), or his Dan Tyminski Martin D-28 #4 (He says that the thing will play itself and he has to get up at night and kick the case sometimes to make it hush) or he may be seen adding a few chops on the mandolin.  Mark lives in Dyersburg, TN with his wife Dianne and has two grown sons.  Mark has been involved in bluegrass for over 30 years and his having the time of his life playing with Cane Ridge.  Mark's polished baritone lead adds a contemporary feel to Cane Ridge's traditional form of music.  If you ever have time, he loves to hear a good Lawyer joke and might even add it to his repertoire.

                                                                                  Tommy James

Tommy is the newest member of the Cane Ridge family.  Tommy is an award winning musician and a  multi-state champion banjo player.  Tommy has received national recognition for his special skill on the banjo.  Whether Tommy is playing the 5 string, the fiddle or any other instrument he picks up, he brings an explosive engergy to the music that is almost unparalleled.  Tommy sings and plays with such passion and soul that he will make a true believer out of even a casual bluegrass fan.  Tommy lives and works in Lexington, TN with his wife and family.  His family hails from Henderson County for generations and his grandfather established a great reputation as a bluegrass musician.  (Tommy comes by his talents naturally.)  Everyone who meets Tommy James will agree that he is not only a fantastic musician, he is a fantastic feller!!!!!

                                                                                 Phillip Williams

Phillip plays mandolin and sings harmony and lead with Cane Ridge.  Phillip is one of the finest musicians around and can sing any part known to man. (He can even make parts up and make 'em sound gooood!)  Phillip lives in Trenton, TN with his wife Sue.  He has two grown sons.  Phillip has been involved in music all of his life, but really enjoys the old slurrin', bendin' & cryin' songs of the early days.  Phillip has a soulful voice that brings out the old sad ballads and makes you believe he has lived the hard times.  Phillip is a regular in the bluegrass circles and is known and liked by all.  If you were to go to a festival in Russia, at least two people there would know Phillip (Ha! Ha!).  Phillip plays a Flatiron mandolin and a McMahan custom guitar.

                                                                                    Patrick Cupples

Patrick plays upright bass, sings tenor, lead and is the sound engineer for Cane Ridge.  He lives in Dyersburg, TN with his wife Tammy and son Byron.  He has been involved in music most of his life and was a drummer for most of his early career.  He enjoys and has a passion for the pure acoustic sound of Bluegrass and has since devoted all of his musical interest in this area.  He loves the "backbone drive" provided by the bass and rhythm guitar and loves to accent what the musician is playing during a break.  Patrick plays a 1940 Kay C-1 upright.  He enjoys songwriting, recording, anything electronic and anything bluegrass!
